Kushina told about her past to Naruto, that she was a former Kyuubi Jinchuuriki. She was originally from the village Uzugakure, relative village of Konohagakure. Uzugakure's sealing techniques were horribly well-known and also for its long-age population. Kushina told that long ago, the wife of the first Hokage, Uzumaki Mito was become the first person where the Kyuubi sealed in. But at the age of very old, Mito no longer able to become the host of Kyuubi. And Kushina was chosen to replace her. When Kushina will give birth, that's when the critical points where the seal to be weak. It was immediately utilized by Madara to seize and control the Kyuubi.
